NATO fighter jets were scrambled again after Russian fighter jets were spotted over the Baltic Sea this week, the defense alliance reported, quoted by DPA.
Hungarian fighter jets were used to identify and escort five military aircraft near NATO airspace off the coast of Latvia, NATO's Allied Air Command said late yesterday.
The detected formation included three MiG-31s, a Sukhoi (Su)-30 and a Sukhoi (Su)-35, which "did not comply with international flight safety rules," the air command wrote in a post on “Facebook“ (Facebook).
Latvian Defense Minister Andris Spruds said the interception underscored NATO's strengthened and proactive stance. Recent airspace violations by Russia have raised concerns among allies.
