German Interior Minister Alexander Dobrindt claims that "swarms of drones" were spotted in Schleswig-Holstein on the night of September 26. He made the statement at a press conference in Berlin.
“This has rarely happened before“, the minister noted. “There is a threat that can be assessed as high“, he said. At the same time, Dobrindt noted that for now it is more of an “abstract“ threat. "However, this is something we have to take seriously, as it can very quickly become dangerous," he added.
The minister announced an increase in the number of unidentified drones seen in the skies over Germany and said he intended to present a plan to combat suspicious drones this autumn.
On September 26, authorities in the state of Schleswig-Holstein announced that several drones had been spotted in the region.
Earlier, the Bild newspaper, citing its own sources, reported that the German government was developing a secret plan to combat unidentified drones. The central element would be to give the Bundeswehr the authority to shoot down drones in the event of a danger to human life or a threat to critical infrastructure.
