Finland has held preliminary talks with Sweden on the possible joint production of warships, including corvettes, Yle reports, News.bg reports.
“The corvette project is an example of Finnish-Swedish cooperation, as the supplier of the weapon system is the company Saab. Negotiations are currently underway for potential deals“, said Finnish Defense Minister Antti Haakonen during his visit with his Swedish counterpart Poul Jönsson to the “Rauma“ shipyard, where four multi-purpose corvettes for the Finnish Navy are being built.
Swedish Defense Minister Poul Jönsson indicated that Saab's participation will strengthen defense cooperation between the two countries. "We are glad that Saab is part of the project. We hope that this will lead to closer cooperation in the defense-industrial complex in the future," he added.
Rauma Marine Constructions (RMC) CEO Mika Nieminen emphasized that a key factor in the successful production and export of warships is precisely the partnership with the Swedish company Saab and other participants in the project.
"This is a strategic goal that we are striving for," Nieminen noted.
