New rules for crossing borders in the EU: EES system comes into force - 1

The European Union is introducing new border control rules that come into force on October 12. From this date, all member states will begin to apply the Entry/Exit System (EES) - an automated procedure involving facial scanning and fingerprinting of every traveler when entering and exiting the EU borders, reports Focus.

The EES system will register third-country nationals traveling for a short stay every time they cross the EU's external borders.

For the purposes of the system, “non-EU nationals“ defines persons who do not hold citizenship of any European Union country, as well as those without citizenship of Iceland, Liechtenstein, Norway or Switzerland.

The EES will be introduced in all Schengen countries, including:
Austria, Belgium, Bulgaria, Croatia, Czech Republic, Denmark, Estonia, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Hungary, Iceland, Italy, Latvia, Liechtenstein, Lithuania, Luxembourg, Malta, Netherlands, Norway, Poland, Portugal, Romania, Slovakia, Slovenia, Spain, Sweden and Switzerland.
