Finland has authorized the opening of several checkpoints on the border with Russia, Izvestia reports, citing a statement by the head of the border guard unit, Jussi Napola, reports Focus.
“We will assess the volume of traffic and based on that we will decide how many points to open“, Napola said, specifying that the number of activated checkpoints will depend on the expected flow of people crossing.
On April 16 last year, the Finnish government decreed that the border with Russia would remain closed until further notice. The new decision replaces a similar document from April 4, 2024, and came into force after almost a year of indefinite closure.
