Hungary: Brussels' migration policy is suicidal - 1

Brussels' migration policy is suicidal, while the Hungarian government has stopped illegal migration and intends to continue to act in the same way in the future, Hungarian Foreign Minister Péter Szijjártó said today. He added that for this reason Budapest is calling for immediate humanitarian aid for Sudan, the Hungarian news agency MTI reported, quoted by BTA.

“In today's era of dangers, one of the main challenges is illegal immigration“, Szijjártó said during a joint press conference after talks with his Sudanese counterpart Mohi El Din Salem. He added that its effects can be felt by everyone in Western Europe.

Szijjártó said that Brussels' migration policy is “suicidal“ and has led to a significant deterioration in the security situation in Europe.

„Parallel societies have emerged in the western part of the continent, a noisy minority dominates the communities there, and the threat of terrorism is growing. All this is the result of Brussels' unwillingness to stop the waves of migration, but rather to manage them, he said.

Szijjártó said that Brussels was making a huge mistake by "not understanding the serious challenges facing Africa", whose population will increase by about one billion people in the next 25 years.

"If we do not start comprehensive programs aimed at developing the African economy and improving the health and education systems, there will be two sad consequences: either the biggest humanitarian catastrophe of all time in Africa, or the biggest migratory pressure of all time in Europe", the Hungarian minister added.

He cited Sudan as a "sad example", after the armed conflict in the country left about 40 million people in need of urgent care and humanitarian aid and where millions have been forced to flee their homes si.

Szijjártó called on Brussels to finally take notice of the catastrophic situation in Sudan, stressing that otherwise tens of millions could head for Europe, in which case nothing would stop them from reaching Hungary's southern border.

„Hungarians have already done their part and are ready to continue doing so in the future. We have already contributed by helping to transport 10,000 tons of grain from Ukraine to Sudan. We are ready to contribute to the humanitarian crisis with additional food supplies and we are ready to contribute to the prevention of serious infectious diseases with health and medical equipment“, he said.

He added that Hungary was ready to expand its scholarship program, as currently 25 Sudanese students can study at Hungarian universities each year, but this year over 500 have applied.

“We are ready to help Sudan by expanding this program so that after peace is restored, it can achieve long-term stability and avoid becoming a starting point for new migration waves to Europe. Migration should not be managed, but rather its root causes should be eliminated“, he said.
