Greek authorities are investigating in the northern prefecture of Drama after a forestry official found a decapitated young male bear, eKathimerini reports.
The disturbing find was made last Wednesday in a mountainous area near the village of Livadero.
An autopsy showed that the animal had been shot twice - once in the back and once in the thigh - before being decapitated.
In a joint statement, the Organization for the Environment and Climate Change (OFYPEKA) and the environmental group “Callisto“ stressed that killing or injuring bears is a crime punishable by law.
