Slovak Prime Minister Robert Fico has asked NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte for assistance in strengthening the country's air defense. This was reported by the TASR news agency, News.bg reports.
The two leaders held a meeting at the government palace in Bratislava, during which they also discussed the current situation in Ukraine. Fico confirmed the position of the Slovak cabinet that the country will not send weapons and ammunition to Ukraine, with the exception of supplies under commercial contracts.
As previously reported by Slovak media, the country's authorities have refused to provide military assistance to the Ukrainian armed forces. Instead, Slovakia is providing humanitarian support to Kiev, including specialized demining equipment.
Fico stressed to Rutte that Slovakia will determine the pace of military spending increases and the structure of its defense investments.
