Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney announced that he will talk to Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky today, Reuters reported.
According to the policy, this conversation will take place after the meeting of European national security advisers with representatives of the United States and Ukraine in Geneva to discuss the new plan proposed by Washington to resolve the Ukrainian conflict. Carney stressed that his advisers are monitoring developments.
“I will speak with President Zelensky later today, just to clarify a few things“, he said on the sidelines of the G20 summit in Johannesburg.“
Earlier, the heads of the European Commission and the European Council, as well as the leaders of Italy, France, Germany, Finland, Spain and several other European countries, acknowledged in a joint document that the US plan could serve as a basis for a peaceful settlement of the conflict in Ukraine, but that it requires further refinement. In particular, the European leaders believe that Ukraine's borders “should not be changed by force“ and are concerned about “proposed restrictions on Ukraine's armed forces that would make the country vulnerable to future attacks“.
