US President Donald Trump announced that the number of points in Washington's proposed peace plan for Ukraine has been reduced from 28 to 22.
„It was just a scheme. It was not a plan. "It was a concept," the US president told reporters on board his plane en route to Florida, where he is expected to spend the US Thanksgiving holiday on November 27.
He was asked to comment on criticism from Republican allies who considered the initial version of the US administration's proposed peace plan too pro-Russian.
"And from there they took each of the 28 points and ended up with 22. Many of those issues were actually resolved very favorably," Trump added.
Last week, it was announced that Washington had proposed a 28-point plan for a Ukrainian settlement. The program outraged Kiev's partners in Europe.
On November 23, the United States and Ukraine held consultations in Geneva on Washington's peace plan. US Secretary of State Marco Rubio called the meeting "the most productive" since the beginning of the conflict. Politico later quoted a source who reported that the negotiations were tense.
The Ukrainian side insisted on changes to the plan. According to RBC-Ukraine, the delegations of the two countries agreed on most of the program proposed by Washington, but several points were left for discussion at a meeting between Trump and Volodymyr Zelensky, the date of which has not yet been determined.
As stated by the press secretary of the Russian president Dmitry Peskov on November 25, Moscow considers the American plan to be substantial and could serve as a basis for negotiations.
