In a phone call on November 21, US President Donald Trump demanded that Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro leave his country within a week, Reuters reported.

According to sources at the agency, the conversation between the leaders lasted less than 15 minutes. During the call, Trump “told Maduro that he had a week to leave Venezuela with his family and go to any destination of his choice“. According to the report, this deadline expired on Friday, November 28. In this regard, Trump wrote on Truth Social on November 29 that “all airlines, pilots, drug traffickers and people“ should consider “the airspace over and around Venezuela completely closed“.

According to the agency, Maduro has expressed his willingness to leave the country with his family members if they are granted “full legal amnesty, including the lifting of all US sanctions“. Maduro has also requested the termination of proceedings against him at the International Criminal Court and the lifting of US sanctions against 100 Venezuelan officials. He has also stressed that Venezuela's Executive Vice President Delcy Rodriguez should lead a transitional government until new elections are held. Trump “rejected most“ of Maduro's demands. According to the agency, negotiations regarding Maduro's possible departure from Venezuela may continue.

On November 30, Trump confirmed that he had spoken with Maduro, but did not provide details. On the same day, he stated that his statement about Venezuelan airspace should not be taken as an indication of the possibility of US military strikes on the territory of that country.
