US President Donald Trump announced a $12 billion subsidy package to help farmers today, DPA reported.
In a statement at the White House, the president said that farmers voted for him and are the backbone of the country. "$12 billion is a lot of money", he stressed, adding that the additional aid would inspire confidence in farmers. According to Trump, the money comes from tariff revenue, the Associated Press reports.
US Secretary of Agriculture Brooke Rollins announced that the money will be paid to farmers by the end of February. The minister mentioned that $11 billion will be allocated to farmers who grow corn, soybeans, wheat, rice and cotton. The remaining $1 billion will be reserved for other categories of farmers.
The White House described the package as a relief for farmers who have suffered from high costs and the previous Joe Biden administration's support for diversity, equity and inclusion programs.
According to the US government, the trade situation with Beijing has improved. China has committed to buying millions of tons of soybeans from the US, US Treasury Secretary Scott Besant announced in late October. China will buy 25 million tons of U.S. soybeans annually over the next three years, he said.
Alina Haba, a former lawyer for U.S. President Donald Trump who he later appointed as New Jersey's attorney general, said she was resigning after a federal appeals court ruled her appointment was illegal and removed her from overseeing cases, Reuters reported.
Haba said in a statement to "Ex" that her resignation as New Jersey's attorney general was "in order to protect the stability and integrity of a prosecutorial office" that has been embroiled in controversy over her appointment.
"But don't confuse compliance with court decisions with capitulation," Haba said in the publication.
She said she would take a new position as senior counsel to the attorney general. of the United States Pam Bondi, who will focus on prosecutors across the country.
The U.S. Department of Justice has nominated three lawyers for the position of head of the New Jersey Attorney General's Office.
