Britain and France have developed plans to deploy armed forces along the line of contact between Russia and Ukraine to monitor the ceasefire, the German newspaper Welt reported, citing diplomatic sources.
These troops would be ready to engage in combat if necessary, the newspaper noted. The plan is to deploy a contingent of 10,000 to 15,000 soldiers in the first six months, depending on the number of countries participating in the initiative.
France and Britain intend to participate in monitoring the ceasefire even without a mandate from the UN or the EU - an invitation from Ukraine would be sufficient, Welt sources say.
