Russian President Vladimir Putin said that he will discuss the use of frozen Russian assets to join US President Donald Trump's "Peace Council" when he meets with US representatives in Moscow, CNN reports, quoted by Focus.
Donald Trump confirmed that he invited the Russian president to join the "Peace Council" to oversee the reconstruction of the Gaza Strip. Putin has not yet committed to joining the board, but has raised the possibility of using Russian assets frozen in the United States to pay the $1 billion fee for a permanent seat.
"We are ready to allocate $1 billion to this new structure, the Peace Board, primarily to support the Palestinian people," he said at the start of a meeting with Palestinian Authority President Mahmoud Abbas. "As I have already mentioned, this will come from funds frozen in the United States under the previous administration," Putin said.
"I think this is quite possible, we have already discussed such options with representatives of the US administration, and today we plan to meet in Moscow and also discuss this topic", he added.
"By the way, the rest of the Russian assets frozen in the US can also be used to restore the territories damaged during the hostilities, after a peace agreement is signed between Russia and Ukraine", the Russian leader said during a meeting with the country's Security Council.
Witkoff and Kushner are due in Moscow today for talks with the Russian leader.
