Saudi Arabia does not give its airspace and territory for military action against Iran - 1

Saudi Crown Prince and Prime Minister Mohammed bin Salman told Iranian President Massoud Pezeshkian that Riyadh will not allow the country's airspace or territory to be used for military action against Tehran, the Saudi state news agency SPA reported yesterday.

In a telephone conversation with Pezeshkian, the Saudi crown prince reaffirmed Riyadh's support for all "efforts that would resolve differences through dialogue" to strengthen security and stability in the region, the official Saudi news agency reported.

Earlier, Iranian media reported that Pezeshkian told Mohammed bin Salman that Iran welcomes any process "within the framework of international law that prevents war".

The statement by the Saudi crown prince and prime minister comes after a similar statement by the United Arab Emirates that it would not allow any military action against Iran using its airspace or territorial waters.

Uncertainty about the possibility of military action in Iran continues after US President Donald Trump said last week that an "armada" is heading to the country, but hopes not to have to use it.

Trump's warnings to Tehran were made over the killing of demonstrators in anti-government protests or the renewal of the nuclear program, but demonstrations across the country have since subsided.

US President Donald Trump said the United States would stop helping Iraq if the Middle Eastern country elected former Iraqi Prime Minister Nouri al-Maliki as its prime minister, Reuters reported.

"The last time Maliki was in power, the country fell into poverty and complete chaos. "This must not happen again," Trump wrote on his social media platform "Truth Social".

The alliance of Shiite political blocs that have a majority in the Iraqi parliament has nominated former Prime Minister Nouri al-Maliki as its candidate for the post, he announced last week.

Under Iraq's power-sharing system, the prime minister is a Shiite, the speaker of parliament is a Sunni, and the president, who has a largely ceremonial role, is a Kurd.
