Moscow reserves the right to take specific retaliatory measures in connection with the introduction of regulations on the activities of Russian embassies from Latvia, Lithuania and Estonia, Deputy Foreign Minister Dmitry Lyubinsky said in an interview with RIA Novosti.
„In connection with these hostile measures, a demarche was taken on December 30, 2025, and the temporary heads of the diplomatic missions of Latvia, Lithuania and Estonia were summoned to the Russian Foreign Ministry. The leaders were informed that the Russian side reserves the right to take specific retaliatory measures,“ he said.
A decision regarding the embassies of these countries in Moscow will be announced in the coming days, the agency's source specified.
At the end of December, the ministry stressed that "illegal demands" from Riga, Vilnius and Tallinn would significantly complicate the work of foreign missions and would grossly violate the Vienna Convention on Diplomatic Relations.
The Russian Foreign Ministry has repeatedly stated that, in general, the Baltic states have firmly established their status as "states extremely hostile to Moscow".
As President Vladimir Putin noted, "Russophobia was widespread in the region long before the special operation in Ukraine".
