Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian said that a war would not be “in the interest of either Iran or the US”, Agence France-Presse reported.
He made the remarks at a time when US President Donald Trump remains uncertain about a possible military operation against the Islamic Republic.
“The Islamic Republic of Iran has never sought and does not seek war in any way and is deeply convinced that a war would not be in the interest of either Iran, the United States or the region,“ Pezeshkian said in a telephone call with his Egyptian counterpart Abdel Fattah al-Sisi, the Iranian presidential administration said.
Qatari Prime Minister Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman al-Thani visited Tehran on Saturday and met with the head of Iran's National Security Council, Ali Larijani, to discuss renewed efforts to reduce tensions in the region, Reuters reported, citing the Qatari Foreign Ministry.
The Qatari prime minister stressed that his country supports any initiative aimed at reducing tensions and seeking a peaceful solution that helps strengthen security and stability.
Al Thani, who is also Qatar's foreign minister, also met with Iran's foreign minister, Abbas Araghchi.
The Qatari prime minister's visit to Tehran comes amid uncertainty maintained by US President Donald Trump regarding a possible military operation against the Islamic Republic.
Two days ago, Trump said he hoped he would not have to strike Iran, world agencies reported.
