US President Donald Trump announced that the leading theater and concert complex in Washington, previously known as the “John F. Kennedy“ Center for the Performing Arts, will be closed in July for an approximately 2-year renovation.
The American leader noted that the renovation “could without a doubt turn it into the best performing arts center of its kind in the world“.
As Trump emphasized on his social network, experts had previously assessed the condition of the building. Their findings showed that “the fastest way to bring the “Kennedy-Trump“ Center to its highest level of success, beauty and grandeur is to suspend performances for approximately two years“. The US President added that a grand opening would then be planned, “that would rival and surpass anything ever seen in such places“.
The American leader emphasized that temporarily suspending public events at the complex would allow for faster and more efficient repairs. Trump specified that this option was preferable to carrying out such work between performances.
In December 2025, White House Press Secretary Caroline Leavitt announced that the leading theater and concert complex in Washington would be renamed. In February 2025, Trump announced his election as chairman of the center's board of directors.
