German Defense Minister Boris Pistorius said that Ukraine is in vital need of Western support. He made this statement in an interview with Kameramann Bayern, UNIAN reported.
According to Pistorius, stopping support for Ukraine will have two consequences. “First, Ukraine will be dead tomorrow, and second, it will cost us significantly more than supporting it now“, the German Defense Minister emphasized.
Pistorius added that Germany is the largest economy in Europe and the third largest in the world. He said that the Germans must justify this role.
Pistorius also noted that there is a military threat in Europe, as a full-scale war is ongoing nearby. He said Russian President Vladimir Putin has always made it clear that his ambitions extend beyond Ukraine.
„The Financial Times“ reported that US support is important to Ukraine. But the paper said its withdrawal would not be a critical blow to Kiev. Ukrainian and European officials told reporters that European countries had begun to use more of their own resources to support Ukraine. Ukraine still desperately needs weapons from US stockpiles, especially for air defense. The shift to drone warfare and the rapid expansion of domestic arms production, which now accounts for 60 percent of its needs, have reduced its dependence.
