The plane with the Russian delegation to participate in the peace meeting with Ukraine has arrived in Abu Dhabi, according to Flightradar24 data.
The Il-62 plane of the special flight unit “Russia“ landed at a private airport in the UAE capital at around 23:10 Bulgarian time.
The talks between Russia, the US and Ukraine in Abu Dhabi are scheduled for February 4-5. The US President's envoy, Stephen Witkoff, and the US leader's son-in-law, Jared Kushner, will attend.
The previous trilateral security working group talks in Abu Dhabi lasted two days, January 23-24.
The parties discussed outstanding issues in the US peace plan behind closed doors. New talks were scheduled for last Sunday, but they were postponed to February 4-5. Russian President Dmitry Peskov's press secretary attributed this to scheduling discrepancies.
According to media reports, the US initiative initially included transferring the entire Donbass region under Moscow's control, recognizing it along with Crimea as Russian territory, freezing most of the line of contact in Zaporizhzhia and Kherson regions, halving the size of the Ukrainian armed forces, and banning the deployment of foreign troops and long-range weapons in Ukraine.
The event in the UAE was preceded by a meeting between Vladimir Putin and a US delegation led by Witkoff.
The Kremlin noted that the Americans recognized that without resolving the territorial issue according to the formula agreed in Anchorage, there is no hope for a long-term settlement. The Ukrainian armed forces must withdraw from Donbass - this is Moscow's important condition.
