A preventive evacuation of almost 1,200 people has begun in the Spanish province of Cadiz. The precautionary measures have been taken due to the forecasted heavy rainfall expected with storm "Leonardo".
The regional government in Andalusia has sent messages to residents of 48 municipalities through the Es-Alert system, warning them of the risk of flooding.
The authorities are urging people to be careful, avoid traveling and follow the instructions of the emergency services.
The municipal councils of Jerez de la Frontera, Los Barrios and Jimena de la Frontera in the province of Cadiz have evacuated almost 1,200 people. Their homes are located in areas that could be flooded by the intense rains. Evacuations are being carried out by the Civil Guard, local and national police.
In the provinces of Cadiz and Granada, 250 people from the Spanish Armed Forces Disaster and Accident Assistance Unit have already been deployed.
