Hungarian opposition leader Peter Magyar said that individuals linked to the government are preparing to distribute an illegal video recording showing him in an intimate situation with his ex-girlfriend in an attempt to discredit him before parliamentary elections scheduled for April, Reuters reported, quoted by BTA.
Magyar, leader of the center-right opposition party Tisza, which according to most opinion polls is ahead of Prime Minister Viktor Orban's ruling Fidesz party, said in a video posted on his "Facebook" page that he believes he has been targeted by Orban's camp through a compromising campaign in Russian style.
The 44-year-old Magyar is a divorced father of three. Media reports said a website hinted at an upcoming revelation about an "alleged illegal incident" involving the opposition leader. The site also featured footage from a camera in a double-bed room. Later, the same site posted a message saying: “Expect soon“, as well as the date August 3, 2024, which according to Magyar is the date of a party at which he had consensual sex with his ex-girlfriend.
Magyar divorced his wife in 2023, Reuters recalls.
Orban's chief of staff, Gergely Guias, when asked about the case, told reporters: “I cannot comment on something I know nothing about.“
Magyar said in his “Facebook” video that he had done nothing wrong. “It became clear to me that I had fallen into a classic Russian-style compromising situation, but since I had done nothing illegal, my conscience is clear,“ he said. "I will not allow Viktor Orban and his people to divert attention from reality for weeks with a hoax," he stressed.
We know that the Hungarian side is preparing to complain again about problems with the transit of Russian oil through the "Druzhba" gas pipeline. We can only advise them to turn to their "friends" in Moscow with these photos. This was written by Ukrainian Foreign Minister Andriy Szybiga in X, quoted by FOCUS.
According to him, the footage shows the burning infrastructure of the "Druzhba" pipeline after the last targeted Russian strike on January 27, which stopped the transit of oil.
"By the way, Hungary did not protest to Russia on this issue. They could not even pronounce the word "Russia". Double standards at their best. The truth is that Moscow stopped being a reliable supplier the moment it started its aggression against Ukraine. And this aggression is the cause of all the problems. Unfortunately, years of this reality were not enough for the Orbán government to realize and diversify supplies. We suggest they open their eyes," Szibiga also wrote.
