Netanyahu: Iran deal must also dismantle its nuclear infrastructure - 1

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said he told US President Donald Trump last week that any deal with Iran must include dismantling the Islamic Republic's nuclear infrastructure, not just stopping the process of enriching nuclear material, Reuters reported.

Speaking at the annual conference of presidents of major American Jewish organizations, Netanyahu also said that Israel still had to “finish the job“ of destroying “all the tunnels in Gaza“.

According to him, Israel has already dismantled 150 km of the approximately 500 km. tunnels.

A second round of talks between the US and Iran is scheduled for this week. Iran is seeking a "nuclear deal with the United States that will bring economic benefits to both sides," an Iranian diplomat said today.

Netanyahu said he was skeptical of the deal, which would include uranium enrichment. "There should be no enrichment capacity - not stopping the enrichment process, but dismantling the equipment and infrastructure for enriching uranium," he said.

Netanyahu also said he was seeking to end U.S. military aid to Israel within the next 10 years, after the current agreement to receive $3.8 billion a year - much of which is spent in the United States on equipment - expires in 2028.

“Because of the booming economy, we can afford to gradually eliminate the financial component of the military aid we receive, and I propose a 10-year reduction to zero. "First the three years that remain in the current memorandum of understanding, and then another seven years to reduce it to zero," Netanyahu said. "We want to move with the United States from aid to partnership," he explained.
