US forces have begun withdrawing from their largest base in northeastern Syria, Reuters reported, reports News.bg.
According to the information, dozens of trucks, some of which were loaded with armored vehicles, have left the base in Kasrak in Hasakah province. The convoy was later seen moving along a highway near the city of Qamishli.
The withdrawal is part of a broader regrouping of the US presence in the region, amid the consolidation of power by the US-allied government in Damascus.
Even if Kasrak is completely abandoned, the Washington-led coalition will maintain a presence at the Rmelan base (also known as Harab al-Jir), located near the Iraqi border.
Kasrak is one of the main logistical centers of the international coalition against the Islamic State group. US forces were stationed there more than a decade ago and have been operating alongside the Kurdish-dominated Syrian Democratic Forces in operations against the jihadists.
