In the coming months, Iceland will hold a referendum on joining the European Union, the island nation's Prime Minister Kristúrn Frostadottir announced today, quoted by Reuters, BTA reports.
„In the next few months, we will work on preparing a referendum – referendum on the possible renewal of EU accession talks“, she told a news conference in Warsaw after meeting with her Polish counterpart Donald Tusk.
In 2013, Iceland abandoned four years of EU talks, but in recent years, rising living costs and the war in Ukraine have revived the island nation's interest in joining the bloc, according to polls, Reuters noted.
