The Turkish Intelligence (MIT) and the General Directorate of Security detained four terrorists belonging to the far-left Revolutionary People's Liberation Party-Front (DHKP-C) in a joint operation in Istanbul, who were preparing an attack in Istanbul. They were captured at the scene of the crime, reported the Turkish state television “TRT Haber“, quoted by BTA.
The Revolutionary People's Liberation Party-Front is included in the list of terrorist groups of Turkey, the EU and the US. It preaches Marxist ideology and has been behind a number of attacks, including suicide bombings, in Turkey since 1990.
Intelligence activities have revealed that members of the terrorist organization were preparing armed and bomb attacks in key locations. Based on the information, a coordinated joint operation was carried out on February 25.
The announcement about it makes it clear that another anti-terrorist operation was carried out on February 3 along these lines. It took place in 22 districts of Turkey and was directed against members of the Marxist-Leninist Communist Party.
Investigators consider the subsequent operation in Istanbul to break up the cells of the Revolutionary Party and the People's Liberation Front as the result of "effective coordination of services" against far-left terrorist organizations.
