Brussels Airport has announced that it will not operate departing flights on March 12 due to an upcoming national strike. The strike will involve security and baggage handlers, making it impossible to service departing passengers at “Zaventem“ airport, BTA reports.
“We expect serious disruptions on this day“, the statement said. The airport said the decision to suspend departing flights was coordinated with airlines and some arriving flights will likely be affected. Possible disruptions to public transport are also expected from March 8. There is no information yet about measures at Charleroi airport.
Belgian unions called the strike with demands that were made when Prime Minister Bart de Wever took office a year ago. The protest is in response to planned budget cuts and changes to retirement conditions. Belgium has seen seven national strikes last year, some lasting more than a day.
