One person was killed and another was injured in a shooting at Holloman Air Force Base in New Mexico, the Associated Press reported.
The incident occurred around 5:30 p.m. local time (2:30 a.m. Bulgarian time). The victim is receiving medical attention. There is no threat to the military site at this time. Details of the incident were not released.
The facility is a key U.S. Air Force facility located in Otero County, New Mexico, about 6 miles southwest of Alamogordo.
The base is preparing for a large-scale air show on April 18 and 19, 2026. The event is free to the public and will include demonstrations by the Patriots Jet Team, as well as static displays of modern and historic aircraft.
Holloman is home to the 49th Wing, which is the largest training center for F-16 Fighting Falcon fighter pilots and MQ-9 Reaper drone crews.
It is home to the world's longest and fastest test track (Holloman High Speed Test Track), used for testing at speeds up to Mach 9.
The base hosts training units from the UK's Royal Air Force (RAF) and has a long history of training German pilots.
In the 1950s, the base played a critical role in Project Mercury, training chimpanzees (including the famous Ham) who flew into space.
Holloman is often mentioned in ufology in connection with claims of UFO landings and alleged meetings between American presidents (such as Dwight Eisenhower) and extraterrestrials in 1954.
