Orban: Hungary will stop gas supplies to Ukraine until the Druzhba pipeline is resumed - 1

Hungary will stop gas supplies to Ukraine until the Druzhba pipeline is resumed, Prime Minister Viktor Orban said in a Facebook post, Reuters reports, quoted by BTA.

According to him, supplies will be gradually limited, with Budapest storing available gas quantities on its territory.

The dispute between the two countries is related to the suspension of supplies via the Druzhba pipeline, which began in January and led to tensions between Hungary and Ukraine, including the blocking of a European Union loan for Kiev.

Earlier this month, the EU offered to send a mission to inspect the pipeline. Ukraine accepted the offer and expressed readiness for cooperation, including technical assistance and financing to restore supplies.

Hungary and Slovakia have not received Russian oil through the “Druzhba“ pipeline since the end of January, after Kiev reported that the infrastructure was damaged in a Russian strike in western Ukraine and will need repairs.

Budapest has already sent its own fact-finding mission, but its results have not been made public by the Ukrainian side.

Both countries - Hungary and Slovakia, which are among the few EU members still importing Russian oil - accuse Ukraine of delaying the restoration of supplies for political reasons.
