The European Union is determined to ensure that accountability is sought for the crimes committed in Bucha at the beginning of the large-scale Russian invasion of Ukraine, said the EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Kaia Kalas, who is visiting the country with a delegation of European ministers, quoted by Ukrinform, reports BTA.

„Bucha has become a symbol of the cruelty of the Russian war. "Four years after these mass killings, we remember the victims," Kallas stressed, adding that denying the crimes was unacceptable.

According to her, the EU is working to hold those responsible accountable, including by supporting the establishment of a special tribunal for the crime of aggression against Ukraine.

German Foreign Minister Johann Wadeful also stressed that what happened in Bucha was a symbol of Russian war crimes and said that the perpetrators must be punished. He recalled the horrific scenes after the liberation of the city - killed civilians, mass graves and reports of torture and violence.

According to him, Bucha is also a symbol of other tragedies such as the events in Izyum, Kramatorsk and Mariupol, as well as the resilience and struggle of the Ukrainian people.

Vadeful stressed that the meeting of EU foreign ministers in Kiev sends a clear signal of support for Ukraine and its European perspective, as well as a warning to Russia that crimes will not go unpunished.

Ukrainian Foreign Minister Andriy Sibikha called on the international community to join efforts to establish a special tribunal to investigate Russian aggression and contribute to the restoration of justice.
