Orban after the loss: The result is unambiguous and painful - 1

Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban has admitted the defeat of his Fidesz-Hungarian Civic Union party in the parliamentary elections.

Speaking to a rally of his supporters in Budapest, he congratulated his rival Péter Magyar, leader of the Tisza party, on his victory.

With more than 50% of the votes counted, Tisza has a significant lead over Fidesz, winning the majority of seats in the country's parliament.

“The result, although not final, is clear. The result is painful and unambiguous for us“, Orban said.

The opposition Tisza party won the Hungarian elections, securing 136 of the 199 seats in the country's parliament after 53.45% of the votes were counted, the National Electoral Bureau announced.

According to the bureau, “Tisa“, led by MEP Péter Magyar, won 95 seats in single-member constituencies and 41 on party lists.

The ruling coalition, consisting of the “Fidesz“ party - the Hungarian Civic Union of Prime Minister Viktor Orbán and its junior partner, the Christian Democrats, can count on 57 seats (11 in constituencies and 45 on party lists).

The far-right party “Our Homeland“ will win seven seats in parliament.
