According to Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi, the memorandum of understanding between the US and Iran in Islamabad was not signed due to the actions of the American side.

“When the signing of the Islamabad memorandum was very close, we faced maximalism, constant changes in conditions and rigidity from our American colleagues“, Araghchi writes in X.

According to the foreign minister, Iran negotiated with the US in good faith and sent to Islamabad “the highest-level representatives in the last 47 years“.

On April 11, Iran and the US held several rounds of talks in Islamabad. The Iranian delegation was led by Parliament Speaker Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf, and the American delegation by Vice President J. D. Vance. As later reported in Tehran and Washington, the parties failed to reach an agreement on a long-term settlement of the conflict due to a number of disagreements.

Details of a possible new round of negotiations remain unknown.
