Russian drone enters Romanian airspace in attack near Danube - 1

The Russian Federation has carried out a new air attack against Ukraine near the border with Romania, with one drone entering Romanian airspace, Agerpres reported, citing the Ministry of National Defense, BTA reports.

According to the ministry, the attack was directed against a civilian and infrastructure target in the area of the Danube Kilia Canal near the border between the two countries.

Romanian surveillance systems have detected two air targets, one of which entered the country's airspace. Contact with it was lost about 16 kilometers southeast of Cilia Veche over an uninhabited area.

The authorities activated the Ro-Alert warning system, sending a signal to residents of the northern part of Tulcea county shortly after midnight. The air alert was canceled at around 02:48, and teams will conduct an inspection of the area.

The Romanian Defense Ministry condemned Moscow's actions as a threat to regional security and a serious violation of international law.

Romania, a member of NATO and the European Union, has a long land border with Ukraine. Since the beginning of Russian attacks on Ukraine's Danube ports, there have been repeated cases of drones entering Romanian airspace, Reuters notes.
