Russian troops are concentrating their resources on the southern outskirts of Mirnograd in Donetsk region, using residential areas as natural cover, said Vladimir Polevoy, chief of communications of the 7th Rapid Reaction Corps of the Airborne Forces of Ukraine, on Radio Donbass Realii.
„The enemy really has an advantage right now in the residential areas of Pokrovsk and Mirnograd. They provide them, first of all, with cover“, he noted, quoted by UNIAN.
According to him, the difficulty in carrying out strikes is due to the fact that the buildings hinder the operation of conventional tactical FPVs:
“The tall buildings of Mirnograd and Pokrovsk are like mountains, like a forest, standing in front of Russian logistics and covering their radio horizon.“
Polevoy claims that attempts to peer beyond these tall buildings with the help of repeaters or reconnaissance aircraft are hampered by the active Russian air defense system. Even new optical drones are becoming less effective in the city.
He noted that in densely populated areas, the cable simply lies on the ground, bending or breaking at the sharp corners of buildings that “stick out like teeth“.
Despite these technological limitations, the media source assured that the southern part of Mirnograd is not a complete “blind spot“.
“There are casualties there, but the complexity of the urban terrain and the priorities of the command currently make this area one of the most challenging for drone operations“, he added.
