At least three people were injured after an explosion at the “BP Cherry Point“ refinery in the northwestern part of Washington state, USA, reported “Seattle Times“

It is located in Whatcom County, on the shores of the Strait of Georgia.

Employees at the facility have been evacuated.

Company officials confirmed the incident, stating that the situation is under control and does not pose a threat to nearby communities.

Reports on the exact number of casualties vary. The Whatcom County Fire Department reported three people hospitalized: one required advanced medical attention, while two others received basic medical care. The company's statement also said four people were taken to the hospital.

The cause of the incident has not yet been determined and the company promised to provide more information later.

BP's Cherry Point refinery, located in Blaine, began operations in 1971 and employs approximately 800 people. Its capacity is approximately 235,000 barrels of crude oil per day.

It is located just a few miles south of the U.S.-Canada border.

It is the largest refinery in Washington state and is a key fuel supply for the region, including Seattle International Airport.
