In London, more than 100 tractors drove past the Parliament building as a sign of protest by British farmers against the lack of support for food production in the United Kingdom, BNR reported.
The convoy of tractors with their horns blaring made their way through the streets of central London last night towards Westminster. The organizers of the protest from “Save British Agriculture and Justice for Kent Farmers“ said that cheap food imports and inappropriate government policies are putting the UK's food security at risk. Slogans such as “No farming, no food, no future” were raised, and a 21-year-old farmer from West Sussex told the BBC he was a “third generation farmer and protesting for his future”.
The protest comes after months of heated demonstrations across Europe, including blockades, by angry farmers in Greece, Germany, Portugal, Poland and France protesting European Union regulations and cheap imports. Thousands of farmers in Wales have also joined forces to fight new farm subsidy plans launched by the government. There have been several demonstrations in England before this, including in Kent and Cornwall, but last night's action with the tractors was the biggest yet.
