Tens of thousands of people protested in Budapest against Prime Minister Viktor Orbán, reported "Reuters". The demonstration was led by a new opponent of Orbán, Peter Magyar, a former lawmaker and in the past close to the Orbán administration. The procession reached the parliament.
Those present chanted "We are not afraid" and "Orbán to resign". Magyar gained notoriety in February when he began openly and fiercely commenting on the work of the government, which he accuses of running a centralized propaganda.
"I respect Peter Magyar and I believe in him, I think he will save us from corruption in the country, which is leading us on the path of North Korea," said a protester.
Magyar was married to a former justice minister from Orbán's cabinet. He published a recording of a conversation with her in which she detailed an attempt by a senior aide to Orbán's chief cabinet secretary to intervene in a bribery case. Prosecutors are investigating the case.
