Ukraine Denies Attacking Zaporozhye NPP, IAEA Recognizes "Serious Incident" - 1

Ukraine has denied Russian claims that it attacked the Zaporizhzhia NPP yesterday, reported the state news agency Ukrinform, quoted by BTA.

Earlier in the day, the Russian State Atomic Energy Corporation "Rosatom" reported three wounded in "unprecedented series of attacks" of Ukraine with drones against the largest nuclear power plant in Europe.

Andriy Yusov, spokesman for the Main Intelligence Directorate of the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine, categorically denied that there were any attacks on the Russian-occupied nuclear power plant in the southeastern Ukrainian Zaporozhye region.

"Ukraine does not participate in any armed provocations at the NPP illegally occupied by Russia. The aggressor state once again threatens the nuclear site, the civilian population and the environment of the whole of Europe," Yusov stressed. He mentioned a "well-known and persistently criminal practice of the invaders" to simulate attacks on the nuclear plant, station soldiers there and mine it.

Sunday's drone attack on the Russian-controlled Zaporozhye nuclear power plant in Ukraine caused damage to the building that houses one of the six reactors, but nuclear safety was not compromised, the International Atomic Energy Agency said ( IAEA) in the “X“ platform, reported Reuters, quoted by BTA.

„One death was reported. The damage to unit 6 did not compromise nuclear safety, but it was a serious incident with the potential to compromise the integrity of the reactor's protective system, the IAEA said.

The director general of the agency, Rafael Grossi, added that there were three “direct hits” at headquarters.
