Over 2,200 NATO military personnel start the "Sea Shield 24" exercise in Romania - 1

Over 2,200 military personnel from Romania and allied countries in NATO will participate in the multinational exercise "Sea Shield 24". (Sea Shield 24) in the coastal area of the Black Sea and the Danube River, reports the Romanian Ministry of Defense, quoted by Agerpress and BTA.

In addition to Romania, 12 allied and partner countries are participating in the exercise organized by the Romanian Navy in the period April 8-12: Bulgaria, France, Georgia, Greece, Italy, Great Britain, Moldova, the Netherlands, Poland, Portugal, Turkey and United States.

As part of the exercise, the military will participate in missions to combat illegal activities at sea and river, river and sea control, search and rescue at sea, assisting a vessel in distress and ensuring the security of critical infrastructure.

The military will use 27 sea and river vessels, 17 aircraft and 91 vehicles and boats, the quoted source said.

The multinational exercise "Sea Shield 24" is the most complex event managed by the Romanian Navy through the Naval Component Command "Vice Admiral Ioan Georgescu" in 2024, and contributes to the promotion of Romania's initiatives and interests regionally and internationally, as well as increasing the level of interoperability between the participating forces, the announcement noted.

The Ministry reminds that the first edition of the multinational exercise "Sea Shield" was held in 2015, and its scenarios are constantly being adapted to ensure a rapid and effective response to the full spectrum of threats to regional security and stability.
