The Washington Post: Donald Trump's secret, long-term plan to end the war in Ukraine - 1

Trump plans to force Ukraine to cede territory to Russia if he wins the presidential election. He plans to pressure Ukraine to hand over Crimea and Donbass to Russia, thus completely abandoning the policy of Joe Biden, who emphasizes the need for military aid to the Ukrainian armed forces, writes The Washington Post

According to people in the know, former President Donald Trump has said he can end Russia's war in Ukraine by pressuring it to give up some territories. Some foreign policy experts said Trump's idea would reward Russian President Vladimir Putin and condone the violation of internationally recognized borders by force.

Trump's proposal consists of forcing Ukraine to cede Crimea and the Donbass border region to Russia. This approach, which has not been previously reported, would dramatically reverse the policies of President Biden, who has emphasized curbing Russian aggression and providing military aid to Ukraine.

As he seeks to return to power, the Republican nominee has often boasted that if elected he could negotiate a peace deal between Russia and Ukraine within 24 hours, even before taking office. But he has repeatedly refused to specify publicly how he will quickly settle the war, which has raged for more than two years and in which tens of thousands of soldiers and civilians have died.

Pro-Trump foreign policy thinkers emphasize addressing threats to US interests from China and finding ways to counter Russia's growing dependence on China for military, industrial and economic aid. They also supported limiting NATO expansion.

In a conversation, Trump stated that, in his opinion, both Russia and Ukraine "want to avoid humiliation, they want to get out of the situation" and that people in some parts of Ukraine would not mind being part of Russia, according to a person who has discussed the matter directly with Trump.

The Russian takeover of parts of Ukraine will extend the reach of Putin's dictatorship after Europe's biggest land war since World War II.

Some of Trump's supporters are trying to convince him not to agree to such an outcome.
