Today, Australia announced that it has appointed a special adviser to monitor the Israeli investigation into the airstrike in the Gaza Strip a week ago that killed seven aid workers, DPA and BTA reported.

Mark Binskin, who was previously the chief of the Australian Defense Force, "will engage with Israel and the Israel Defense Forces on the response to the attack that killed the Lalzaumi "Zomi" Francom and her colleagues," Australian Foreign Minister Penny Wong said in a statement.

"The Australian government has made it clear that we expect full accountability for these deaths," Wong said. "The appointment of Binskin will ensure that the family of Zomi Francom and the Australian people can have confidence in this process."

Frankom, an Australian citizen, was one of seven employees of the "World Central Kitchen" killed in an Israeli army airstrike on the Gaza Strip on April 1.

The other six aid workers were from Poland, Britain, one person with dual US-Canadian citizenship, and the Palestinian Territories.

An Israeli investigation published on Friday called the incident a "serious failure". The aid convoy was attacked on suspicion that two armed members of the Palestinian organization "Hamas" were in a vehicle, the investigation said.

Israeli forces did not recognize the vehicles as belonging to the humanitarian organization, although they were clearly marked. The attack was a "serious violation of army orders and standard operating procedures," said the result of the investigation.

Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese said that "the information Israel has provided so far about its investigation has not yet met our expectations.

"We therefore expect that Mr Binskin will be able to work in a way that provides more information to Australia,", Albanese told national broadcaster ABC.
