British Foreign Minister David Cameron held talks with Donald Trump in Florida amid his efforts to increase US support for Ukraine, BTA reported.
Cameron met with the presumptive Republican presidential nominee yesterday before traveling to Washington to address Congress on the stalled military aid package.
„Prior to his visit to Washington, the Foreign Secretary will meet with former President Trump today in Florida,”, a British Foreign Office spokesman said in a statement yesterday””It is standard practice for ministers to meet with opposition candidates as part of their a routine international engagement“, he added.
During his visit to Washington, Cameron will warn that Kiev's victory over Russia is “vital to American and European security”. He is expected to urge US lawmakers to approve an “emergency” additional aid to the country.
Cameron will insist that Ukraine get the resources it needs to “hold the front line” and “going on the offensive“ in 2025, the Foreign Office said in London.
The British foreign secretary will meet with US Secretary of State Anthony Blinken, as well as congressional leaders, who will call on them to “change the narrative” on support for Kiev while the multibillion-dollar aid package remains blocked by Congress.
He is expected to ask House Speaker Mike Johnson, GOP, to influence his colleagues not to continue blocking aid because of opposition from hard-line Trump-supporting Republicans.
This is the latest of several attempts to intervene by Cameron over additional funding for Ukraine. Earlier this year, he warned the US Congress not to show the "weakness shown against Hitler" in the 1930s.
