Qatar regrets that the UN Security Council failed to pass a resolution on Palestine's full membership in the world organization. “The State of Qatar deeply regrets that the Security Council did not adopt the draft resolution for the full membership of the State of Palestine in the United Nations. “This is a sad day for justice and represents a step backwards in efforts to achieve peace in the region,” said Qatar's Ministry of Foreign Affairs in a statement posted on X (formerly Twitter).
The agency believes the UN has demonstrated an “inability to fulfill its responsibilities to maintain international peace and security amid the brutal war in the Gaza Strip, which has led to the worst humanitarian catastrophe the world has seen in 21st century.”
On April 18, the United States used its veto power in the UN Security Council and blocked Algeria's draft resolution to accept Palestine as a full member of the world organization. 12 members of the Security Council, including Russia and China, voted for the document recommending the admission of Palestine to the United Nations as a full member of the organization. Switzerland and Great Britain abstained.
