Taiwan's Ministry of Defense said today that it will discussed with the US how to use the new funding included in the package worth a total of 95 billion dollars, which is intended primarily for Ukraine and Israel and which was approved yesterday by the House of Representatives of the US Congress, reported Reuters, quoted by BTA.< /strong>
The United States is the most important supporter and arms supplier to Taiwan, although Washington has no formal diplomatic ties with the self-ruled island, Reuters notes.
Taiwan is under increasing military pressure from China, which perceives the island as its territory.
Taiwan's Ministry of Defense thanked the House of Representatives for approving the aid package, saying it was proof of unwavering US support for Taiwan.
The ministry also said it would coordinate "with the U.S. on appropriate budgetary use through exchange mechanisms" and that it will work to "enhance combat readiness capabilities" to ensure "peace and stability in the Taiwan Strait".
As of 2022, Taiwan has complained of delays in the delivery of US weapons as arms manufacturers have focused on supplying weapons to Ukraine, where Russian forces have invaded.
