Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan today called on the international community to oppose the US veto on the Palestinian bid for a full member of the UN and to recognize the State of Palestine, reported the Anadolu Agency, quoted by BTA.

„It is unfair that Palestine is not allowed to become a member of the United Nations. We call on the international community to oppose this injustice and recognize the state of Palestine, Fidan said at a joint press conference with his Mauritanian counterpart Mohamed Salem Ould Merzoug in Istanbul.

Fidan stated that during his meeting with Merzoug, they discussed the “continuing massacre in Gaza” and added that “like Turkey, Mauritania adopts a delicate policy in relation to the Palestinian issue, especially the situation in Gaza, and offers all possible support”.

The Turkish foreign minister also said that Turkey and Mauritania are in “great solidarity” regarding Gaza. “We will continue our cooperation for an immediate ceasefire and continuous delivery of humanitarian aid,” he added.

Fidan also said that the efforts of the two nations will continue “uninterrupted until an independent and sovereign Palestinian state is established with East Jerusalem as its capital and territorial integrity based on the 1967 borders”.
