According to a survey reported by DPA, most German citizens support the idea that Germany and its European NATO allies should significantly increase their defense spending, based on the changing security situation, reports BTA.

The study was prepared by the institute "Forza" commissioned by "International Politic" magazine. The data from the study was provided today to DPA.

A total of 68% of respondents said they supported increasing defense spending, while 29% said they disagreed.

According to the survey, the majority of the German population believes that Germany and NATO member states in the EU should significantly increase their defense spending in the future. The results of the survey show that approval is higher in West Germany, as well as more among male respondents.

The strongest support for the allocation of more defense funds is observed among supporters of the conservative Christian Democratic Union and the Christian Social Union - 90%, and the smallest - among supporters of the far-right "Alternative for Germany". - 61%.

Among the supporters of the German Social Democratic Party, 72% declare themselves "for", among those of the "Greens" - 75%, and among those who support the business-oriented German Free Democratic Party - 88%.
