Eleven states in India, including Prime Minister Narendra Modi's home state, begin voting today in the third phase in the general elections, BTA reported.
In India, elections began on April 19, taking place in seven phases, with nearly 1 billion voters eligible to vote.
Modi is fighting for a third term as prime minister. His party, the Indian People's Party, is facing an alliance of more than two dozen opposition forces in this election.
Today there are votes for 93 parliamentary seats in 11 states and territories. There are 172 million eligible voters, including Modi, who is expected to vote in Gandhinagar in Gujarat, where Home Minister Amit Shah is a candidate.
In the election five years ago, Modi's party won 70 of the 93 seats up for grabs today, but this time it is shaping up to be a tight battle with the opposition Indian National Congress party.
