North Macedonia elects president and parliament - 1

Citizens of North Macedonia vote today in the second round of presidential elections, as well as for the country's parliament, BTA reported.

Voters have the right to choose which elections to participate in - presidential or parliamentary, or both.

In the second round of the presidential elections, Gordana Silyanovska, nominated by VMRO-DPMNE, and Stevo Pendarovski, supported by SDSM for a second presidential term, are participating in the race, and the difference between the votes for the two after the first round on April 24 is double in Silyanovska's favor.< /p>

Even on the election night of April 24, Pendarovski stated that he would not explicitly seek the support of individual political parties for the runoff, but that of the citizens. A few days before the vote, the coalitions of Albanian political parties, which had nominated their own candidates for the first round, announced that they would not call their voters who to support and leave it to their discretion.

One of the big question marks of today's vote in the presidential elections is whether the voter turnout will be above 40 percent, which is the legal condition for there to be a presidential election. The chairman of VMRO-DPMNE, Hristiyan Mitskoski, spoke about a possible boycott of the vote in the pre-election campaign, and from the coalition of the Albanian opposition parties, which announced its goal to send the largest Albanian party DSI, which was part of the governments and of VMRO- DPMNE and SDSM asked questions about whether DSI was preparing a “quiet boycott” the elections in order to cause a political crisis in the country. The Left party was also accused of preparing a boycott of the elections, from which they denied such an intention, but practically none of the parties that nominated a presidential candidate for the first round of the elections sent a specific message of support for Siljanovska or Pendarovski in the second round.< /p>

17 political parties and coalitions are participating in the eleventh parliamentary elections in the country. The electoral system is proportional, with North Macedonia divided into six electoral districts, each of which elects 20 deputies. Who they will be is decided by the votes cast, distributed according to the D’Ont.

method

Potential post-election coalitions that would form a government were one of the leading topics in the election campaign. The chairman of VMRO-DPMNE, Hristijan Mitskoski, whose party according to sociological surveys would receive the largest number of votes, indicated as a desirable coalition partner the coalition of Albanian opposition parties "Deserves", which in turn also expressed confidence that they would participate in the future government in the country. Buyar Osmani, who was nominated by the coalition around DSI for president in the first round, said, however, that in the next parliament of North Macedonia, the Democratic Union for Integration (DSI) will have 20 deputies and will be the only one “who can provide the so-called called badenter majority" (the inclusion of ethnic communities in making important decisions) in the legislative body.

For the conduct of the elections, 1,999 observers and foreign media have been accredited to monitor and inform about the electoral process in the country, according to the information published on the website of the State Election Commission.
