The Verkhovna Rada passed the second reading of the bill on the mobilization of prisoners in Ukraine. This was stated by MP Yaroslav Zheleznyak, quoted by TASS.
The bill was supported by 279 people's representatives.
The Council adopted the bill in first reading on April 10. Previously, the Committee on Law Enforcement of the Ukrainian Parliament recommended the adoption of the law.
According to the bill, all convicts will be subject to mobilization, except for persons who have committed crimes against the foundations of national security, murderers, rapists, pedophiles and persons who have committed fatal accidents under the influence of alcohol or drugs.
The document also prescribes a procedure that provides for the consent of the convicts for mobilization and passing a medical examination. For their part, unit commanders will have to give their consent to the acceptance of such conscripts.
Legal changes open the possibility for about 50,000 people with a criminal record to be called up for military service.
