North Korean leader Kim Jong-un today expressed his firm support for Russian President Vladimir Putin in a congratulatory message on the occasion of the 79th anniversary of the victory over Nazi Germany in World War II, reported the state news agency KCTA, quoted by Reuters and BTA.
Putin was sworn in for a fifth term in office just two days ago, at a time when Russia's relations with the West are at a low point over its war on Ukraine.
The United States and other countries have accused North Korea of helping Russia with weapons, Reuters recalls. Moscow and Pyongyang have rejected those accusations, despite suspected North Korean missile fragments being found in Ukraine, and last year agreed to deepen their military cooperation.
"I express firm support and solidarity with the sacred cause of Russia, hoping that you and the brave Russian army and people will win a new victory in the struggle for victory over the hegemonic policies of the imperialists," Kim wrote in his congratulatory letter to Putin on the occasion of Victory Day.
